We would like to take advantage of the occassion of his 70th birthday to thank him for his inestimable contribution to Claves Records, for his enrichment of the world of music, and to wish him many more years of beautiful music-making.
　　Peter-Lukas Graf was born in Zurich. He studied the flute with André Jaunet, Marcel Moyse and Roger Cortot. He was awarded the First prize as flutist and a conductor's diploma at the "Conservatoire National de Paris". During the following three years he studied conducting in Munich. Graf won the First prize at the International Music Contest of the ARD in Munich and the Bablock Prize of the H. Cohan International Music Award in London.
　　The multi-talented musician was appointed the youngest principal flutist at the Winterthur Orchestra and at the Lucerne Festival Orchestra (with additional conducting responsibilities). At the age of 21, Peter-Lukas Graf's recording of Ibert's Flute Concerto earned him immediate and overwhelming international recognition. He has since then made numerous recordings, television and radio productions, he regularly performs on tour in North and South America, Australia, Europe, Israel, Japan, Korea and Russia, and is also a regular guest at international music festivals such as in Salzburg, Ansbach and Lucerne.
　　Peter-Lukas Graf also dedicated himself (exclusively for a number of years) to operatic and symphonic conducting. He received his conducting diploma as a student of Eugène Bigot. He was the Kapellmeister at the opera in Lucerne for seven years, and has conducted orchestras such as the English Chamber Orchestra, the Lucerne Festival Strings and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields.
　　Peter-Lukas Graf has been professor at the Basle Music Academy since 1973 and gives master classes internationally. Peter-Lukas Graf is also the author of two didactic monographs for the flute.
