The cover of this project is me during that period. I made this project thinking about this joyful, hopeful time, and something about the 49ers and their gold and red uniform became symbolic for me. Most of this project was made in a week or so with a carefree, playful attitude. Sometimes this meant quite detailed arrangements emerged, and other times, I settled with a couple of addictive loops. I also made video montages for a lot of these tracks, and in some cases, these videos became quite profound to me, especially what happened with “No One Else” - which really captured a sense of alienation and loneliness, or the video for “Separate Together” which expressed a sense of how we are all individuals and yet inextricably united. These tracks were more meditative and I think represented some of the feelings I had leaving California, or longing for a return. This record is also about fun, dumb bangers. I did videos that were just absurd montages of dancing camels or thousands of men in pants. I'll be releasing these videos on Instagram and Youtube soon. I hope you enjoy this record. It's raw and was fun to make, and I hope it captures some of the spirit of my time in California in the 80s. *This record is 100% DIY. I usually get projects mastered externally but I did that myself too (and did a total of 6 mastering versions, went insane, then chose the original version of course). Other than Bandcamp, there is no middleman on this project.
