Eumig is the experimental and drone project of Leigh-on-Sea-based musician and artist, Nick Dawson. Nick has been a long-time friend of RTR, with this album lined up to close the year from the beginning of 2019. 'Analog Spaces' features seven exploratory tracks, deeply evolving drones, fragile textures, and cascading synthetic soundscapes, reaching beyond 70 minutes in length from start to finish. The album is designed to be heard in one listen; the cassette version of the album blends between tracks, blurring the lines of where one track finishes and another begins. Nick's work explores a variety of analogue synths and processing equipment, giving the album a warm and full sound with deep bass tones and bright synth pads that seemingly reach beyond the confines of the stereo image. Stuart Bowditch (Courier Sound), a long-time collaborator of Nick's, provided the photograph to make up the album artwork, fitting well with the electronic and very physical sound of 'Analog Spaces'. In addition to creating music under the name of Eumig, Nick co-hosts the Otherwires radio show alongside James Green (Bear Hug Recordings), and is an accomplished abstract painter (we'll be seeing more of Nick's paintings in a future instalment of the RTR 'Experiments in Practice' zine!).
