Although he had been a skilled keyboard player, he wrote relatively little for the medium, in which the new fortepiano was assuming importance. His Six Keyboard Sonatas, Op. 17, were written and first published in the 1770s and show the influence his work had on Mozart. The pianist Alberto Nosè was Gold Medal Winner of the 2005 Sanatander International Piano Competition.
