This volume has a slow indie feel, while previous efforts include more of a rock feel, with significant guitar. On the first track, “G Side: Everything Away,” the female vocals fit perfectly with the keyboard. Even though it is a slow song about a lost relationship, it still is very catchy and has an uplifting rhythm. In “B Side: I Like Your Hair Long”, the male vocals come in soft, leading toward another slow rock song. It has a catchy chorus in which the boy spills with emotion, “I like your hair long / Sing you a love song / Picnic on the shoreline”; the song will get stuck in your head immediately. The lyrics of each of the songs are superb as they both tell separate stories. The CD is short, but has everlasting value. The Hard Lessons are an up-and-coming three-piece out of Michigan that has the ability to be caught on the airwaves in the next couple of years.
