在所有六七十年代重金属中，Grand Funk Railroad无疑是最特殊的一个。60年代末，不只是英国才有重金属！1969年，BS和LZ在英国煽风点火，美国人还在WOODSTOCK狂欢，NEIL YOUNG发行了那张对后来的美国摇滚产生了巨大影响的他个人的第二张专集……这时候最容易被忽视的就是美国的重金属，这些被忽视的乐队中间GRAND FUNK RAILROAD又是最不该被现在号称是欧德斯库迷忽略的。当时如果说能有一支美国乐队与英国那些大牌乐队分庭抗礼的话，也只有他们了。他们甚至还特别创作了We're an American Band，来说明他们并不是英国乐队，而这首歌也成为了他们的代表作。当时GRAND FUNK RAILROAD在美国绝对算得上是个大牌乐队，每张专集销量都能超过百万。

前卫摇滚照理说是没可能比硬摇滚硬的，可是我现在回不去了，硬摇滚似乎没有力了。我应该找回感觉。硬摇滚的聆听会让人渴望取代它制作先锋爵士。从硬摇滚开始一般摇滚的打击乐更绝妙，不是六十年代能比的了，披头士偶尔闪现的在这时候是量产的。
