The Pleasure Principle 发行于1979年，是 Gary Numan 以个人名义推出的第一张专辑，而那张同样差不多知名的Replicas是早半年推出的，是以Tubeway Army的名义。

在这张专辑中，他没有使用吉他，而是大量地使用合成器。当然他当时也受到了Kraftwerk的影响，在这张专辑里最知名的那首Cars里，他用的合成器和Kraftwerk的Autobahn里的是同一款。

（这首歌Numan是受报纸上的有机电脑新闻启发，所以写了这么一个类似人但并不完全是人的机器。其中，my mallory heart 中的mallory这个名字的含义是“失败的人”，同时mallory也是一个电池公司。

最后一段描述的是机器人就如新生的孩童一般，不知道人会死亡，初尝的爱的形式是“需要”。）
