In the 1920s, Paris was the art capital of the world, leading the way in painting, literature, music, and drama. When Igor Stravinsky premiered his dissonant, modernist ballet The Rite of Spring in 1913, its progressive sound had kicked off an artistic and creative renaissance in France. The imaginative spirit of greats like Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Jean Cocteau, and James Joyce soon came to be synonymous with the great city of Paris.
