To Be Born Again...
After years of not being brave enough to listen to this album, I gave in and managed to give it a chance one day. This is definitely an album that I feel in retrospect I should've listened to earlier.
The album is hard to listen to. For those not familiar with Jazz or Folk or Fusion, this album will challenge. I admit the biggest reason I didn't listen to the album was Van Morrisson's voice. I found it strangely annoying but by the 7th time I listened to this, I found it very emotional and honest.
If you are looking for a simple listen, then this is not it. "Moondance" Van Morrison's 3rd album is alot easier and more Pop sensible. Astral Weeks is a Folk album at it's core but mixes in Jazzy Bass Sections and Flutes that give the album a unique edge and feel.
This album will remain a powerful album as long as music exists and will continue to be a benchmark for all other Folk-Jazz albums.
Score: 100/100
Notable Songs: Astral Weeks, Sweet Thing, Cyprus Avenue, Madame George and Ballerina.
Best Song: Madame George
