Underground heroes

It's never easy to judge without emotion.
In the case of Circa Survive. I couldn't help but feeling sad while drifting in <Violent Waves> with great joy simply because they are so amazing and yet so unknown/underrated in China. When Nick asked me when they should come play I said maybe 5 years later. Was I right? In the real world Circa Survive has gained mainstream recognition nailing soldout shows one after another. I like ppl calling them underground heroes. It's been discussed gazillioin times in the subject of changing styles and sounds. As a band, you can't please everyone. Everyone changes, not everyone evolves.
If you loved <Blue Sky Noise> you would prolly like <Violent Waves> too. If you love who they are and the creative energy roaring underneath you would love <Violent Waves>. Personally I think this album is a step forward. It's a product of evolving not mutating, Signature traces can be found crafted into the veins of each song. It's like watching Woody Allen movies realizing no one else coulda done the same.
Now let me dig some old stuff up, the old Saosin - Circa tale which surprisingly still gets hold of some ppl. Yes, Anthony used to sing in Saosin, in that legendary EP <Translating the name>. The glorious glamor never wears off for some "die hard" Sao-fans which is part of the reason why they never accepted Cove as the new frontman(Now the band can't even find a replacement). Anthony is Cove's hero, Cove treasured the moments he and Anthony shared stage once. Brendan told me Cove was actually the ONLY one in Saosin he's friend with.We couldn't agree more what a nice guy he is. It's absurd to jump to the conclusion that any Sao-fan would dig Circa material considering they both went through shifts along the years.
BTW as usual, the album art was done by Esao Andrews AKA "visual soul mate" of the band. I'm glad Esao brought his obsession with waves and ships to a new level.
Aug 28, the day <Violent Waves> came out. It is also Cove's birthday. Happy Birthday Coveeee! I wish you the best of luck. Stand up and never give up. Don't ever say "Sorry to disappoint" again. Don't forget what you said about dreams in Beijing. Have faith when others don't.
Circa is winning. Not only because of solid music but also solid personality, A Circa show is where things explode, where ppl unite, where nothing else matters. The violent waves have been going on for years, in our bodies our minds our souls. For me Circa is a FIVE STAR band. Maybe not all their attempt falls in your range, it's like the first time you tasted black coffee, maybe one day you'd fall in love. I look forward to the day they bring the waves to China.
I believe Circa Survive is for those willing to take a chance, those craving for a little extra outa ordinary,
