Lang spent much of the last decade struggling with writer's block – 2008's Watershed was her first self-penned collection in eight years – but you'd never guess from Sing it Loud. This warm, fluid collection of jazz and country-flecked songs brims with confidence. Her band, the Siss Boom Bang, supply classy accompaniment and co-writing credits, and a cover of Talking Heads' "Heaven" shakes off New York jerkiness for Nashville's easeful grooves. But Lang presides effortlessly here and if she rarely pushes her voice to full throttle, it's as much of a joy to hear her purr along smoothly.
