Rajaton
Vocal ensemble Rajaton (pronounced rah-yah-ton), founded in autumn 1997, is a professional a cappella group with six singers (SSATBarB). Its objective from the first was to attain an international level ensemble singing and to enrich the Finnish a cappella scene with their unique sound and their fresh approach to choral music. The group´s members are experienced choral singers and their diverse musical backgrounds contribute to the musical expression of the ensemble.
In accordance with its basic concept, Rajaton primarily performs music written especially for the group - with or without microphones. As its name shows (rajaton= boundless, unlimited), its musical scale ranges from sacred music to pop and from folk music to contemporary concert music. Rajaton participated in the international competition for vocal ensembles at the Tampere Choral Festival (Finland) in June 1999 and won the first prize, the Grand Prix. Since their first appearance abroad as an invited performer at the Cork Choral Festival (Ireland) in April 2000.
Rajaton has given concerts in Canada, France, Spain, Italy and the U.K. Rajaton keeps busy in Finland as well. Their concert venues vary from churches and concert halls to jazzclubs. Most of their performances are in private occasions. Rajaton sings frequently in different corporate events as well as in weddings and other private parties.
The voice is boundless.
