在1978年 春天"Gloria Gaynor"在歐洲登台時不小心跌落舞台，使得"Gloria Gaynor"脊髓受損並臥病在床達9個月之久，加上復健期間母親又去世，這許多的打擊幾乎讓她崩潰，康復後她努力振作，找來了兩位製作人"Dino Fekaris"、"Freddie Perren"共同寫下這首"I Will Survive"證明自己戰勝了怯懦，這首"I Will Survive"的推出，便將"Gloria Gaynor"推上事業的巔峰就如同歌詞所寫到的"I''ve Got All My Life To Live，I Will Survive一樣。1980年這首歌更是獲得了葛萊美獎史上唯一的一座"最佳迪斯可錄音"大獎，"I Will Survive"也從此成為經典，不但在各地迪斯可舞廳大受歡迎，也多次被電影收錄為插曲其中包括1992年首映的德國電影(Beyond Silence) 、1992年(Gladiator)、1994年(Four Weddings & A Funeral )、1999年(Coyote Ugly)、1999年(Man On The Moon )、2000(The Replacements) 1994年(The Adventures Of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert)都曾經使用過這首歌曲來當作插曲。
"I Will Survive"這首1979年蟬連6周冠軍白金曲，成為當時70年代Disco必備歌曲，法國世界盃足球隊開賽歌選用此曲；最重要的是，此曲也被滾石評為100首最偉大的作品之一。
也由於同志團體對於"Gaynor"多首單曲的支持，也使的他與"瑪丹娜"同樣名列為同志最擁戴的女藝人之一，在2003年丹麥首都哥本哈根舉行了一場4萬人的同性戀大遊行，重頭戲就是來自美國的迪斯可女王"Gloria Gaynor"的演唱會，現場萬人鑽動，場面浩大讓歌迷的情緒也high到最高點。
2005年九月19日"Gaynor"更與"I Will Survive"一同被獲選列入美國紐約的"舞曲名人堂Dance Music Hall of Fame"以表揚她的貢獻!
