Buffalo Springfield

So this is the debut ablum by a little band called Buffalo Springfield, whose members include giants like Neil Young and Stephen Stills.
Stills's songs are unique in the way various elements like folk, country and r&b are melted together: Take the hit 'For what it's worth', it's got an r&b influenced beat, but then you hear Stills sings in a moody, reflective style assoicated with folk, and so you got something speical---the Americana sound (before the Band championed it on their ablum 'Music from the big pink').
On the other hand, Young's songs are mostly simple folk-rock tunes, yet they have a dark and haunting quality which Stills's songs lack. 'Flying on the ground is wrong', which is sung by Richie Furay instead of Young himeself, is a fine example, it's delicately catchy but with lyrics like 'If I'm bright enough to see you, you're just too dark to care.', which mirrors the songwriter's angst (demonstrated further on later albums like 'Tonight's the night').
The contrast between Stills and Young gives this ablum lots of different dimensions, but then these two could really play togther, the amazing guitar works in 'Go and say goodbye' says it all.
Anyway, a great album, a must have for any Young or Stills or CSNY fan.
