Serve me the sky with a big slice of lemon
对The Geese of the Beverly Road的喜爱5年过去了一丝一毫都未曾消减,这首歌带来的自由感可以无限放大我开心放肆的时刻。It's about those fleeting moments/ gleeful nights when you are totally free and totally happy totally carefree. We're young, we're in love, and feel like we can take over the world. We're kings and queens and fucking invincible. The upbeat drums, the lyrics, and matt's vocal... everything works like a charm.
We're drunk and sparking.
Our legs are open.
Our hands are covered in cake.
But I swear we didn't have any. I swear we didn't have any.
Hey, love, we'll get away with it.
We'll run like we're awesome, totally genius.
We're the heirs to the glimmering world
Oh, come, come be my waitress and serve me tonight.
Serve me the sky tonight.
Oh, come, come be my waitress and serve me tonight.
Serve me the sky with a big slice of lemon.
Matt Berninger on The Geese of the Beverly Road: "I do occasionally steal bits of real conversations or little scraps from movies and TV. Heir to the Glimmering World is a Cynthia Ozick novel that came out while I was finishing the lyrics to 'The Geese of Beverly Rd.' It was just what I needed, thanks Cynthia." This song, he explains, is set in the neighborhood of Brooklyn where he and Bryce Dessner lived during the recording of Alligator, a place called Ditmas Park. "It's a beautiful neighborhood that feels more like Savannah, Georgia than Brooklyn," he said. "The houses are all free-standing with nice yards and wrap-around porches. I was sitting outside one night watching a bunch of kids running up and down Beverly setting off car alarms. The song is theirs. Recording out there was nice, very relaxed."
