虽然pallas不是我最喜欢的新前卫乐队之一，但在我看来这支苏格兰乐队有几张专辑堪称经典。一张是84年的首专sentinel，显得非常老式复古，在键盘上的旋律令人回忆起七十年代，当然这张并不是他们最好的。2005年的《the dreams of men》在我看来是一张新前卫的巅峰之作，当然这也是共识了，它充满了美妙大气的旋律，新前卫一切应有的元素都有了，当中的小提琴为之增色不少，而专辑概念似乎是“某些人的美梦是另一些人的噩梦”也很有深度。而之前的一张《The Cross & The Crucible》则比较黑暗晦涩，主诉宗教与科学的矛盾，音乐来说没有新前卫的畅快感。我喜欢的第三张则是他们最后发布的一张专辑，2014年的wearewhoweare，这和他们之前的专辑都不同。pallas一般来说是有些金属化的新前卫，这在2011年的XXV里表现得最为明显（我不太喜欢这张），XXV也是sentinel的续集，讲述了同样的关于战争和乌托邦的命题。而在wearewhoweare中，pallas变得更加流行了，更加pf化了，迷幻电子的部分增加，而一直以来营造氛围的键盘并未丢失（在我看来，键盘才是pallas的灵魂所在），变得更加宁静优美，歌曲更加旋律化、流行化，而录音和制作似乎也有不少提高。另一个变化是歌手由Alan Reed换成了Paul Mackie，这符合他们音乐的变化。虽然Alan Reed更负盛名，但Paul的声音听起来更舒适，更适合pop曲风。这些变化让wearewhoweare更耐听，当然似乎也更不前卫？不管如何，wearewhoweare和the dreams of men是我认为pallas最好的两张专辑，也是新前卫领域内不可不听的两张杰作。
