Merry Christmas
Fourth Studio Album
Mariah Carey's "Merry Christmas" album was released on October 29, 1994. The album, which contains seven traditional songs as well as three songs written by Mariah and Walter Afanasieff, debuted at number thirty on the Billboard 200 chart, reaching its peak of number three four weeks later. Later on, it would go on to become the best-selling Christmas album of all time.
"All I Want For Christmas Is You," the album's lead single, has since its original release become one of the most successful Christmas songs ever, being covered by artists like Michael Bublé, Justin Bieber and Cee Lo Green among many others.
The album was re-released in 2005 as a Dual Disc including the original album, "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen," previously available only on international editions, and an Anniversary Mix of "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town." The DVD contained eight previously unavailable holiday videos, including a live version of "O Holy Night."
