This is the first song from the second album of Pu She (朴树), the singer who came up with the song “New Boy” that I translated a few days ago. The second album titled “Let life be beautiful like summer flowers” (生如夏花) borrows from one sentence of a poem from the poet Rabindranath Tagore (this sentence is awkward because I googled it to make sure). Again this is a typical Pu Shu-like song. I have to mention that Pu Shu himself must be pretty good at English: as I look it up online, it turns out that this song already has an English title “Mutt Sorrow”, and it’s my first time seeing the word “mutt”. Actually he can probably speak French, too. There is a French song in this album.

This album is released in 2003. That’s when they somehow start to shoot music videos in a way that is close to how they do it nowadays. In my memory, before around that time, music videos are basically shoot for Karaoke, so there is little aesthetic values in them as long as the lyrics show up. Even though, from the music video, you could still tell that Pu Shu is always that shy and awkward boy (and tall and handsome). For example, at ~1:20, he acts like he was in a press conference. His hands and arms are kind of (actually, not kind of) inflexible. I am sure that he is doing that on purpose, but I am also sure that he is also just being himself, which must be cute I guess to the fans. Another “novelty” of this music video during those days is that the lyrics match the story of the music video, finally.

I actually own one copy of this album myself, and of course it’s not pirate copy, otherwise I wouldn’t bother to mention it.
