Having started playing rock and folk-rock years ago, Kazuhisa can play "conventional" guitar, but having been active in the free improv/noise scene for some time now, his range of extended techniques is impressive. Over the course of the recording, he produces sounds like insects, ray guns, pseudo-gamelan, computer games, electronic glitches, something close to hoof beats, explosions, spastic drum machines, horns and a myriad of other guitar and un-guitar sounds, which he then loops and manipulates. It may sound like pure craziness to some, but attentive listening reveals that these pieces are both structured and tonal while remaining somewhat abstract. Flect is certainly not for all tastes, but should appeal to adventurous listeners interested in avant-guitarisms or even the abstract glitch crowd.
