2007年6月2日是英國作曲家艾爾加150歲冥誕，這位因為謎語變奏曲、威風凜凜進行曲和大提琴協奏曲而聞名後世的浪漫派作曲家，是英國自浦賽爾之後400年來，唯一一位揚名歐陸和全球的作曲家。這套錄音收錄了EMI這個灌錄艾爾加作品最力的唱片公司所有錄音中，最經典的代表作，其中包括了艾爾加自己指揮灌錄的精彩佳作。在艾爾加的時代，他其實是因為出色的合唱音樂作品，而受到全歐洲肯定。他的神劇「傑隆提厄之夢」，被理查．史特勞斯讚賞，也為他打開了在歐洲的知名度，而這些作品則都是受到伯明罕音樂節委託而創作，他們先後委託艾爾加創作了「傑隆提厄之夢」、「王國」、「十二門徒」等作。後兩部作品，其實是艾爾加計劃中的三聯作的前兩部份，其中「王國」原本是要當作「十二門徒」的最後部份，所以兩作其實是一作，而三聯作的最後一部則是「最後的審判」，後來艾爾加將「王國」擴張成單一作品，從...
