Tian is recognized as one of the world's most exciting young virtuoso pianists.Known as Tian Jiang in the classical world, Tian made his critically, acclaimed NorthAmerican debut at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall. The New York Times writes, "Aformidable technique-shining, crisp, energetic and colorfully illuminated."He was then the subject of a feature profile on CBS' "Sunday Morning with Charles Kuralt".
Born in China, Tian first came to international attention when he appeared withVladmir Ashkenaty in a BBC film about the Russian virtuoso's historic visit to China.Tian Completed his early music education in China, where he began studying piano atage five, and made his debut at age thirteen at the Shanghai spring International MusicFestival. He graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and continued his studies at the Juiltiard School. Tiart's honors include prizes at the National Piano Competition of China, the Jorma Hodges international competition, the William Kappell Intemational
Piano Competition, the young Keyboard Artist International competition and the VanClibum Awards.
He has excited audiences in Europe, North America and the Far East. Among other perfomtances, he has appeared with the Honston Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of St. pukes, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Singapore Symphony, The Philippines Philharmonic, the Shanghai sympohony and the Central Philharmonic of China.
As a necitalist, Tan has performed in New York's Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. 92nd Street Y. Merkin Concert Hall. Miler theater and the Weill Recital Hall. He has also performed in Chicago, Philadelphia, Las Angeles, San Francisco, London, Paris, Brussels, Moscow, Sydney, Hong Kong, Taipei, Manilla, Beijing and Shanghai. He has played on radio and television, including CBS' "This Morning With Paula Zahn, "CNN, PBS and National Public Radio and WORS.
Now Tian has turned to composing, while continuing his active concert schedule. "Shanghai Dream." his first original recording, "Shanghai Dream" became the theme. music for score of a PBS documentary about I.M.1'ei. reveals the pianist's romantic nature Each work features romantic pap melodies grounded in classical harmonics. Some of the pieces are influenced by Tiara's Chinese background: others by his love of classical piano repertoire.
