Formerly known as Antikrist, they changed their name in December 1995. All in all they were only known as 'Antikrist' for about a month. The band was formed by Pierre, Jonas and Svenne.

In Norse mythology, Månegarm is a wolf that lives on the blood of dying humans and at Ragnarök hunts down and swallows the moon.
