Is this really my life?
-Remember that letter, that you let me read that you wrote when you were twenty to yourself at forty?
-Yeah, I remember the first sentence ,”Dear forty -year-old Jesse, I hope you not divorced”.
- No, I didn’t even remember that part. I meant all the other things in that letter. You are the same guy. I mean, we always think we are evolving but maybe we can’t change that much.
-You know, I think I’ve changed the most.
-How?
-When I was younger, I just wanna time to speed up.
-Why?
-Well, so I can be a man. So I can be free from my parents, my school and all that shit. You know I just wanna close my eyes and wake up being an adult. And now I can feel that happened, I just wanna everything to slow down.
-It’s strange. I always have that feeling. No matter where I am in my life, that’s either a memory or a dream.
-I know you’ve always thought that. And me,too. I mean, is this really my life, like it’s happening right now?
-It is.
-I know. Every year, I just seem to get a little bit more humble and more overwhelmed about the things I never gonna know or understand.
- That’s what I keep telling you. You know nothing.
-I know. I come around.
-But not knowing is not so bad. I mean, the point is to keep looking, searching, to stay hungry, right?
- I know, it’s true. I just wish it were a little easier.
-How do you mean?
-It’s to maintain a certain level of passion,you know. I mean, it used to come so naturally. You remember the younger me and all my writer friends? We like, I just thought we are just doing something important, you know, like this is our time.
-But you all are a bunch of arrogant little ,right?
- No. All right,maybe. It’s just to screw out this lots of energy, you know, this creativity, or whatever ambitions people have. You know, I think you gotta be a little deluded to stay motivated.
- Young man like this thing to compare themselves to something all the time.
