You do not know this group? This is normal, you enter a parallel universe, I have named: the UnderGround People's Republic of China. Countries where extreme metal is not necessarily what is more legal. Skeletal Augury is a band I discovered through a magazine sampler "not accessible" (read here, available in any bookstore / news) with the song Maniac from Total Victory of the Holocaust, since relatively new album out Productions in 2009 in Pest. First listen and as the title states, I became totally crazy although already slightly inclined to be. As my curiosity and my enthusiasm for this group have won, I prepaid expenses pig (yes, pigs!) So that this cd makes its final journey in a safe place: Brittany.
The group is composed of three bad actors (at the time of the release of the album), namely: Lord Freeze, Jia Ke & Evilnorth. They produced the first two titles of mischief, a demo that was created in 2008. A route could not be more traditional in fact. So we are dealing with their first real album. Level artwork and tracklist, you type in the base plate. Judge for yourself: From Pagan Flames, Death's Hammer, Temple of Blood. The pouch is no exception with its worm 'blasphémiquo-mutant' which seems to dig in seeking its next four hours.
The Chinese have proposed the ten tracks of pure disarray, composing a set of forty short minutes a mixture combining a Black Metal Thrash Metal screaming at a super fast and especially pest. The assembly is arranged in a manner somewhat Beijing if I can afford. Indeed, the first thing that strikes listening is redundancy intros horror movies out of the bottom of the garage and dusted with grandpa for the occasion (from 30 seconds to 2 minutes nectar dialogues film before a piece does not point the tip of his nose). Moreover, connoisseurs will recognize the trailer for the film "Castle of Blood" in tube opening Total Maniac. Then we see the side persuasive and effective riffs. We feel they have not laid this cake to impress the maiden of the village. With a sound very vintage guitars and especially supported by the rhythm, the voice of frontman Lord Freeze we pierces eardrums voice calls old-school death. The riffs are more than honest and one suspects that the guitarist does not eat rice, but rather the destruction. It includes also a big fat wink with the opening of that layer MoonButcher blithely hit the beginning of the Teutonic trio Mad Butcher. Victory of the Holocaust, but also a lot of blasts in the air. They seem frantic and hard until an obstacle in order to stop and start more (titles Skeletal Augury and Funeral Mutilate are very good examples!).
The entire trail is not without thinking about a certain group of New York appointed grind Mortician, part of the intros of songs from movies horror second class but also and especially through the sacroiliac holy drum machine that shot at all costs. Obviously, this is not the grind and found that Black Metal voice coupled with the famous thrash pattern characteristic of Thrash, especially in the title From Pagan Flames and in the central part of Death's Hammer where their efficiency is not to prove.
Nothing too speculative with this first album but in a style so "clichesque" as black-thrash, Skeletal Augury rather put the bar up. If in addition, considering the fact that it is a Chinese group - countries where extreme scene is in its infancy and no pub is really made for not even a single concert extreme (for fear of government oppression? No doubt ... "but that does not concern us") - Skeletal Augury moves, I think, at the same height as their Asian counterparts that are Sabbath and other Gallhammer Martyrdom .. .
Simple advice: do not listen to this cd while driving may cause some unintended collateral damage! ;)
