（John Legend: “I worked with Kanye more on this album than I had before”）。 If I Should Die Tonight。 一遍遍的质问：“Who do we think we are?” rap verse从开头的竖琴到结尾的“She get Chanel, ski trips to Vail/Only the highest grade, like trees that I inhale”，总归还是黯然神伤。
Outro依旧是Lenny Kravitz的现场表演，“This is our song, is our song for the future”，整张专辑的概念也来源于此，很多实验佳作、尤其是一些歌曲对融合R&B与摇滚的尝试是先前John Legend没有的，可能是在与The Roots合作之后有了新突破，表达了他对于R&B未来的展望与野心，采取与Miguel, Frank Ocean等人不同的道路。
Co-executive producer of the album Dave Tozer spoke to The Source Magazine on producing the track:
Think of that as one of the more classic soul productions on the record, but again combined with hip-hop… And Rick’s voice works perfectly as an instrument on that song. It’s where his vocal timbre lies. So that worked out really well. And we had some really interesting arrangement ideas on that – the Mellotron strings that are playing in the melodies during the Rick Ross verse, and Brandee Younger playing real harp on that… It’s almost like there are Baroque instruments on it. And one of the things I like about a lot of classic soul music and classic Curtis Mayfield is that you have this interesting combination of sounds. We have this sort of black American soul music embedded in the rhythm section of the drums and bass and piano and guitars, playing this funky 70’s era funk music. But then on top of that, you have European-inspired orchestras you know – strings, horns, French horns, harps, all over doing the glissandos that they do. And so we have a lot of that on that recording and that’s why it reminds me a lot of the classic semi-soul records, the Curtis Mayfield stuff, later Motown. It’s all over the “What’s Going On” album, Marvin Gaye… So I’m inspired by that.
