"A booth in the Midwest" Ten years ago I bought you some cufflinks You brought me something We both know what memories can bring They bring diamond and rust 我记得你的眼睛 比知更鸟的蛋更蓝 我的诗糟透了，你说 “你在哪打的电话？” “在中西部的一个电话亭” 十年前我送你一些袖扣 你送我一些东西 我们都知道回忆带来什么 带来钻石和锈 Well, you burst on the scene were already a legend The unwatched phenomenon, 4 the original vagabond you strayed into my arms 5 And there you stayed ,temporarily lost at sea The Madonna was yours for free 6 Yes, the girl on the half shell 7 Could keep you unharmed 哦，你在舞台上迸发的光芒，已经成了一个传奇 一个让人无法逼视的现象 原来漂流的你，漂到我的怀里 就停留下来，象海里短暂的迷失 我是你的圣母，付出我的所有 是的，这个女孩，站在贝壳上的维纳斯 能保护你不受伤害 Now I see you standing with brown leaves falling all around Snow in your hair 8 Now you're smiling out the window of that crummy hotel over Washington Square Our breath comes out white cloud mingles and hangs in the air Speaking strictly for me 9 We both could've died then and there 10 现在我看见你站在纷飞的落叶中 头发白得象雪 现在你微笑，透过华盛顿广场旁的破旧旅馆窗户 我们的呼吸缠绕成白云，在空中漂浮 我确信，我们可以在此时此地死去 Now you're telling me you're not nostalgic Then give me another word for it You who're so good with words and at keeping thing vague Cause I need some of that vagueness now It's all come back too clearly Yes , I love you dearly And if you're offering me diamonds and rust I've already paid 现在你告诉我，你并不是怀旧 那么给我另外的词来形容 你这么善于写词并且善于让事情模糊 现在我需要一些模糊 因为所有过去的回忆突然清晰的涌上来 是的，我深深的爱你 如果你给我带来钻石和锈 我已经为此付出了代价 1.ghost 应该理解成心里萦绕已久挥之不去的对方的形象，心里常常想念。 2.a couple of light years ago 如果是作空间讲的话，应该是away，ago一般是指时间。 光年是空间单位而不是时间单位。一般有点容易错误的理解这个词。如果这里不是作者故意为之，那么就是个误解。 3.Heading straight for a fall 直译是，头直接朝下跌落。既然这里是说作者听到他的声音的心理反应，我想译为晕眩应该是合适的，或者译成站立不稳，比直接说要跌倒好。 4.The unwatched phenomenon 这句很难理解。是指他的光芒强得让人不能看呢？还是被忽视的？ 5.the original vagabond you 虽然original和vagabond都可以作名词，但这里应该都是形容词，并列修饰主语you。 是说你最初是流浪着的，流浪到了我这里就停留下来了。 但这停留是短暂的，不过是在海里暂时迷失了你的方向。然而迷失过后你还会从我这离开，继续你自己的旅程。 6.The Madonna was yours for free for free也就是免费的。完全不需要你为我做什么，我也会心甘情愿为你做任何事。这个不好翻译。我只有从“他不付出任何代价”的反方向来译成“付出我的所有”。或者这里可以不译。 这句里的The Madonna和下句里的the girl 都没有明指，不过联系上下文应该能够看出是说作者自己。 7.the girl on the half shell 贝壳中的女孩是谁？很容易联想到一个著名的形象，贝壳中的维纳斯。 维纳斯这个神话人物，也与上一句的圣母相呼应。 波提切利的名画《维纳斯的诞生》中，维纳斯站在半边贝壳上。西风之神和妻子宁芙女神以交缠的形象出现，暗示强烈的性爱。他们正在把维纳斯吹上岸。风中还散落着玫瑰。玫瑰也象征爱，更因其刺，提醒爱是幸福痛苦共存的。 8.Snow in your hair 是说雪落到头发上，还是说头发白得象雪？ 注意到前一句写落叶，落叶和雪应该是不同时节出现的。所以我认为是形容白发如雪，在纷飞的落叶中是很醒目的。 这个是很直接的，并没有说是比喻。可以参考林夕在《至少还有你》中写到“直到感觉你的发线有了白雪的痕迹”。 9.Speaking strictly for me 直译是“严格的对我来说”，不太好看。于是我把它翻译成了“我确信”。 10.We both could've died then and there 通过写面对面时的呼吸，含蓄的写到了爱欲绞缠。 我们可以在此时此地死去，而不留遗憾。因为一切都是完美的顶点，一切都体验过了。

If you miss the train I'm on You will know that I am gone You can hear the whistle blow A hundred miles Lord I'm five hundred miles Run my door Not a shirt on my back Not a penny to my name Lord I can't go back home This away If you miss the train I'm on You will know that I am gone You can hear the whistle blow A hundred miles 星星点点的吉他伴奏，The Innocence Mission简单清新的民谣嗓音略带一点哀伤和无奈的感叹。 让我想起坐火车去远方旅行，转弯时火车车厢排列成弧线，靠着车窗，微风吹着，看外面一晃而过的绿色树木。想一想生命中错失的，是什么。 长大了以后，家不再是小时候记忆中的温暖和包容。如此让我去“找一个让心灵休息的地方”。理想之地也许不拘于此时此地，更超脱于物质。我是谁，我要做些什么？慰藉心灵的乃是文化中精粹之处，让你成为最愿意成为的形象，让充满疑问的内心有凭依之处。学习浸润其中，无不适然妥帖，于是这梦想之地 始终在呼唤你，让你前往。 如果在旅行中错失，经过那附近却没有停留，将会听到一声叹息。
