The other day when I was listening to the zutons and doing some reading practice, I just could not continue-because their songs were too sexy for me to hold onto my work! Especially the during song “pressure point”, my ears were so itchy that I could hardly go on with the voice from the earphone and I got rid of the mp3 player as if some kind of flame (or feather) is licking my ears. Later when I went to AMG, I found that “pressure point” was the only “AMG pick” in their album “Who Killed…”, perhaps the website picked it because so many people were once turned on by this song! lol This band, formed in Liverpool, shares the label (Deltasonic) and the creepiness with the band Coral, which actually influenced The Zutons. They are both romantic, with some soft and random riffs sounded like some 30’s or 40’s dancing music. But zutons is far more vivacious and playful, probably because of the participation of some wind instruments such as saxophone. Comparing with The Coral, zutons tends to be more bouncy and casual-though still following a patterned melody, it seems that not only the instrumental background, but the voice as well is deliberately creating a retro environment with some slight irony and hoax-this feeling is specially strong when the ending of a verse suddenly leads the tune to a chromatic glide. Although this style is not rare in music, this nuance is precisely the main difference between the coral and the zutons, and the reason why I found it sexy. The zutons is gentle and tender, but you will never find it queer, on the contrary, it’s actually very manly. Perhaps this is because every single word in their songs is always clearly pronounced, despite all the eccentric chords of both human voices and musical instruments with the style of mix and match. It is, probably, a little bit bizarre, but not so bizarre (and scary!) as Tim Burton’s movies. However, it’s still bizarre enough to have be a grotesque picture in your head when the zutons is playing.

在众多古典音乐作曲家中，为大众所熟悉的诸如Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Handel, Haydn等人，都被历史上的音乐评论家和音乐爱好者们赋予了各种各样的头衔、称谓和赞美。但是有一个人，他得到的赞扬是：这是一个和他同时期的任何一个作曲家都不同的人。这是作为一个投身于艺术的人能获得的最高评价。他就是萧邦。 萧邦（1810-1849）是波兰裔法国作曲家和钢琴家，浪漫主义时期的代表人物。他以波兰民族音乐为基础，创作了大量的钢琴演奏作品。 作为一个作曲家，萧邦的风格的确和其他作曲家迥然不同。我弹的第一首萧邦的乐曲是一首polonaise，被后人冠以“军队进行曲”之名。这首A major波兰舞曲是萧邦作品中较为出名的一首。它之所以被称作“军队”，就是因为这首曲子的风格干练、清晰，到了B段更是给人万马奔腾的浩瀚感觉。然而，这却不是萧邦的一贯作风。后来我又弹了另一首有名的“幻想即兴曲”，A段的流畅和华丽稍微向人们展示了一点萧邦的风格，而中段绝美的旋律，才是萧邦最与众不同的表现形式。 但是萧邦最有名的还是夜曲(nocturne),他创作了21首夜曲，其中送给卡米尔-普莱耶尔伯爵夫人的中的第二首最为出名。而在电影“the pianist”开头部分演奏的sharp c minor夜曲，则最能代表萧邦对他的祖国波兰的深厚感情。说到爱国，萧邦是一个典范。当他得知华沙沦陷了，却因病无法回到祖国时，心中的悲愤，只能通过钢琴来宣泄。在这个时期，他创作了著名的“革命练习曲”，这首练习曲中处处充满了强烈的感情，随处可见fff的记号。这与他的夜曲中委婉轻柔的风格大相径庭。然而，虽然他看上去十分瘦弱，但萧邦的内心是无比刚强的。就像“花丛中的一尊大炮”，萧邦的自然清新的风格自然无可比拟，表面上纤弱、细腻，实际上在细微之中渗透着他的刚毅和坚强，总能深深打动人心。肖邦最伟大的地方就是他把感情与音符融合得浑然天成，而无论个人的情感也罢，音乐也罢，给人的感触总是最深沉的。 而作为一个钢琴家的萧邦，也有着非凡的造诣。肖邦经常跟自己的学生说——左手的低音伴奏音型可以丰富层次，用踏板保持住，然后另外两只手就可以创造出丰富的和声效果。 这也是演奏他的一些作品的要领，他自己也是这样做的。 相同国籍的人，有过相同的经历和情结，这也是为什么Arthur Rubinstein是世界上公认的演奏萧邦的权威。而作曲家演奏自己的作品，就能更好的把情感和应付结合起来，演奏出最动人的音乐。 以下为亲耳听过萧邦演奏的人的评论：（来自若干萧邦的传记和评论资料） --他的演奏既充满力量和激情又十分精致讲究。触键的优美匀称十分惊人。音色变化细腻，而踏板的巧妙运用、色彩的明暗以及力度和节奏的微妙变化，使他的演奏充满诗意的灵感和即兴的情趣。 --他的演奏细腻触键，不用强而尖锐的声音。不炫耀单纯的技巧，他的触键自然的深而有共鸣。ff是没有吵闹丰满，纯净的声音；而最弱的ppp也始终是清澈透明。 --他的性格是热情的，也始终是有节制的，清纯、高贵的，有时甚至是含蓄的。 --在别人手里精巧的装饰，在他手里变成一个多彩的光环；别人的敏捷技巧，在他的手里更像一只燕子飞掠而过。 --诗意和风度是他所独具的，切物质的思考都消失了，它就象一颗奇异星体的光，以它不可探测的神秘令人着迷。 --他有一种完全独特的触键方法，一种柔顺的指触，产生出一种雾一样的，水一样的柔美流动的声音效果。把旋律乐句和独特的装饰花纹包围在一种半明半暗的色彩中。他的音乐中具有某些梦幻，又是现实的东西。 --在他柔顺敏感的手指下，钢琴成为一位天使的声音，一个管弦乐队，一个愤怒的海洋，一个宇宙的创造，世界的终极！ 或许萧邦想表达的只是朴素的情感，但是听众却能在得到共鸣之后理解出一些深厚的内涵。而演奏者，则需要从琴谱中找寻和自己由所共同的地方。但是，邦的与众不同，也表现在此——其它一些作品中的指法可以根据自己实际情况改变，可是在萧邦的作品中，指法是绝对不可以随意改的。因为这是他自己固定下来的，他认为每一个手指都有它要表达的感情，如果更改了，感情也变了。对于萧邦的作品，感情比技术更难处理。 大师的杰作，总能在某方面以某种形式一语道破受众的内心活动。人类强调的“理解”，贯穿于各种领域中，都是为了诠释心灵，帮助人们了解自己。任何一位艺术家、心理学家，或是科学工作者，他们的成就，就是让我们的精神生活更加明亮了。

I'm not trying to an expert to judge, but Eminem is absolutely a cool guy. You know it’s not so easy to do as to say, you gotta BE ABLE to be cool before you wanna be. It’s not simply messing around, saying out loud the four-letter words all the time, or trying to be an extremely cynical professional everywhere. Oh yeah, and the tattoos. Eminem is not a new star in music. The time when he first became famous in china (about 2002?) was several years after he came out to rap. He was a good-looking super cool white young man, who somehow led rap music into mainstream-just as what nirvana had done by around 1991. I myself was an example, because before eminem I seldom listened to any rap. He's got the creativity to draw pictures in his songs, many of which have background soundtracks before the rap, telling a storing (usually very radical and cruel) to the listeners. Though you cannot see anything in front of you, you can still picture a 4D movie scene in you head. Good examples are some of the old songs: criminal, soldier, and stan. Another thing which is rare (in other genres that I listen to, but probably common in rap) is that eminem never gives you time to rest. Usually you focus on some of the excellent lines of a song, then there comes the climax, some repetition so you got time to relax you tensed-up nerves and be prepared for the next section (as most Britpop bands do), but eminem doesn’t, he always raps and raps, the gun bams and bams in the background, you brain, you ears can hardly get released from excitement, not even your eyes can totally follow the pace of his lips when checking the lyrics-well I cant. It's been quite a while since I saw the movie "8 miles", frankly I did not understand if fully. Thanks to the disappointing subtitles on which unfortunately the whole story depended. I haven’t seen it again, but I have taken up The Eminem Show the other day. Perhaps because my listening skills had improved (lol), many of the songs that were once blabbering to me all seemed to be clear and sharp. I heard humorous rhymes with fury and jokes (at the same time!) You cannot dance to eminem's music, cannot sing to his music, and cannot write your homework to his music (because you'll be lost in abstraction), but you can show eminem a finger and say: "this, is so far, the mo-" -"bam!" -"...¬incredible...¬thing...¬I've ever...¬heard......"
